1. Step 01 — record

   Record

   A square 1280×1280 webcam clip, up to 60 seconds, captured and encoded on your Mac. Play it back in the popover before you commit to it.

2. Step 02 — draft

   ✨ Draft

   Speech is transcribed on-device — the audio never leaves your Mac. The words are then drafted into a post of 300 characters or fewer through your own OpenRouter key.

3. Step 03 — send

   Send

   The clip and the text go to your own micro.blog with your own app token — as a draft by default, so you publish it yourself. A persistent queue retries if you are offline.

Privacy first, by construction.

Microcast is not privacy-friendly because we promise to behave. It is privacy-friendly because there is nowhere for your data to go. It talks to exactly two hosts, both of them yours: micro.blog and openrouter.ai.

• No analytics, no telemetry, no crash-reporting service and no accounts.
• No servers of ours. We never receive your clips, transcripts, notes or keys.
• Transcription runs on-device. Clip audio is never sent to Apple or to us.
• App Sandbox. Clips and the queue live in the app's own container on your Mac.
• Keys stay in the Keychain — never in preferences, logs or files.
• Draft-first posting, so nothing goes public without you pressing publish.

Requirements

• macOS 15 or later, on an Apple silicon Mac.
• A webcam and a microphone — the built-in ones are fine.
• A micro.blog account on a plan that allows video uploads.
• An OpenRouter API key — optional; without one you type the post yourself.
